AI is a big deal for everyone — businesses, tech monsters, and everyday life, which are already affected by it.

Hello to you, my fellow AI enthusiast! 🤖

It's good to reconnect and ground ourselves. I really needed to see you, reader, to be honest, because when I was preparing this week’s 3-minute newsletter, I found myself almost feeling like I was previewing an upcoming blockbuster😵‍💫 rather than delivering actual news. But the reality is what reality does…

Intrigued? Then let's dive right into this week's update and reconvene on the other side of the river! 🚣

  1. Whodunit 🔎

From now on, your words may slip past unnoticed – and I don’t mean those times when you’re sleepy, drunk 🥴 or using Google Translate. I’m talking about your voice lingering without your awareness.

Imagine waking up in the morning and while brushing your teeth, finding yourself being accused of making racist and anti-Semitic remarks 🙊 With recorded proof. Threatening, innit?

That’s what happened to Eric Eiswert, principal of Pikesville High School 🏫 in Baltimore County, Maryland. A viral clip showed Eric allegedly criticising "ungrateful" black students. The fallout was severe, leading to his suspension and security concerns for his family. But here’s the twist – he didn’t say it 🫨

Here’s the story: one day, Dazhon Darien, the school's athletics director, was called to the principal’s office over his poor performance and potential contract termination. It followed accusations that Darien had misused school funds, alleging he gave £1,500 ($1,900 💵) to his roommate, falsely claiming it was for coaching the girls' soccer team.

What happened next? Perhaps unhappy with the situation, Darien emerged from the office with a vengeful idea 💡 - the power of public retaliation in the digital age. Darien went home, opened his laptop and used OpenAI and Bingchat models to fabricate a recording of the principal making racist and antisemitic remarks 😈

The clip went viral, causing chaos: the principal received threats, and police guarded his house, yada yada yada. Fortunately, this time the villain was caught. Darien was arrested, and officials now seek his termination 🚨

However, the incident highlights concerns about AI misuse, prompting calls for new legislation. Who will be next? You never know 🫥

  1. Big Deal 📈

Think beyond big—it's massive. According to the report by MarketsandMarkets, the Generative AI Market is poised for substantial expansion, with estimations indicating a surge from USD 20.9 billion in 2024 to an impressive USD 136.7 billion ‼️ by 2030. This growth pattern demonstrates a strong compound annual growth rate of 36.7% throughout the projected time frame.

This trajectory is propelled by a list of factors, including ☑️ advancements in cloud storage technology, the emergence of AI and deep learning technologies and a growing appetite for innovative creative applications. Among these, deep learning software, particularly algorithms like Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Variational Autoencoders (VAEs), is anticipated to lead the market, owing to its capability to handle intricate and unstructured data, facilitating applications ranging from image 🌆 to text 💬 and audio generation 🎧

The video segment 📹 within the data modality is forecasted to witness the most rapid growth (no surprise - the popularity of video content across industries is unstoppable). Seems like North America will continue its market dominance thanks to its resilient technology ecosystem, sophisticated infrastructure and early embrace of AI across a diverse range of sectors 🇺🇸

  1. iPhone 007 🤵‍♂️

The tech world is starting to resemble a scene straight out of a James Bond movie, with Apple 🍎 taking on the role of the elusive villain seeking to acquire the ultimate AI weapon.

According to a recent article by the Financial Times, Apple has embarked on a targeted recruitment drive, poaching AI talent from Google and establishing a covert lab in Zurich 🇨🇭 (dramatic). The report indicates that at least 36 specialists have been lured away from its rival.

Furthermore, except for a mysterious way of talent engagement, the majority of Apple's AI team is based in California and Seattle. Now, the company has strategically expanded its presence in Zurich following its acquisition of local AI startups. Employees in Zurich have been deeply involved in cutting-edge AI research, contributing to the development of technologies like OpenAI's ChatGPT. Despite actively seeking talent in generative AI, Apple has chosen to keep its Zurich operations under wraps 🤐, opting not to comment on inquiries.

The atmosphere of secrecy and intrigue surrounding Apple's manoeuvres adds a touch of espionage to the tech industry landscape. I mean, I’d watch such a movie 🎥

So now you get what I mean, don’t you? I should have suggested getting yourself some popcorn 🍿

I’ll come back in a week with more updates and until then, keep exploring the ever-evolving landscape of technology.

Stay curious! 👀
